Description
Primary responsibilities will include teaching human anatomy & physiology, introductory college biology courses, and upper division course(s) in area of specialty; advising students; service to the college, community and discipline; and developing a continuing program of scholarship and/or professional development. The successful candidate will be an active participant in ongoing projects designed to improve the success of college students.

The Department
The Department of Biology offers associate and baccalaureate degrees in biology, and provides service courses to support associate degree and baccalaureate degree programs in nursing and allied health, as well as general education courses. There are currently 12 tenure-track faculty members in the department.

The College
Gordon State College has served the community and region continuously since its founding in 1852, and has been a unit in the University System of Georgia since 1972. After more than three decades of serving the state as a residential two-year college, in 2006 Gordon was named a state college and asked to develop selected four year programs to address critical state needs. Subsequently the College has launched baccalaureate majors in biology, English, health services and informatics administration, history, human services, mathematics, and nursing. Gordon State College serves approximately 4000 students and has more than 120 full-time faculty.

The Community
The main campus of Gordon State College is in Barnesville, Georgia. Located approximately one hour south of Atlanta, students and faculty enjoy the pleasures of small town living together with access to the many attractions of a major metropolitan center and an international airport.

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctorate in biological sciences field is required. Educational background to teach human anatomy and physiology is essential. Preference given to applicants with experience in biotechnology, biostatistics, or biology education.

Demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching.
